AITA

AITA for “allowing” my wife join the guys in my family when the women are cooking?

In a family dynamic filled with tradition and change, a man stands up for his wife’s comfort against traditional expectations. Married for six months and together for seven years, the couple recently settled near his family. As an amazing cook, the wife initially joined the women of the family in the kitchen, but faced harsh judgments and exclusion. Despite her skill and contributions that were praised by many, the underlying jealousy among some female relatives led to negative comments, which affected her deeply.

Her husband, observing her struggle and aware of the family’s traditional expectations where women cook and men do other activities, suggested a change. He encouraged his wife to join him and the other men, an environment where she felt more accepted and less judged. This move, although initially met with resistance from some family members, proved to be a positive shift for her well-being. The husband’s support highlights a break from deep-seated norms, aiming to foster a more inclusive and supportive family environment, despite the challenges from traditional expectations.
